Is It OK To Eat Frozen Food?
Whether frozen food is healthy depends on various factors. It is 100% healthier than eating restaurant, takeout food. Upon freezing, food loses only water-soluble vitamins like vitamins C and B to some extent, not completely. However, fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, D, E, and K are more stable. Protein, carbs, sugar, fat, and fiber values are the same as fresh food. So in short, if having a freezer meal then I recommend having a side of kachumber, or fresh salad to compensate for the loss of water-soluble vitamins. Few more things to keep in mind,
Never re-freeze the food. Once defrosted and reheated, consume it the same day. Do not store thawed food. Never freeze for a longer period. Consume it within 2-3 months. Always freeze in portions (depending on your family serving or single serving). I always cook in a large batch, but freeze in my family-size serving containers. So I thaw that container when needed and finish it in that meal. So I don’t have any leftovers.
How Long Can I Store Freezer Meals?
3 months is the maximum storage time. I recommend consuming within 2 months. Never store beyond 3 months otherwise the food starts to deteriorate.
How To Avoid Freezer Burn?
If storing the freezer-safe ziplock bag, remove the air as much as possible before sealing. Let the cooked food come to room temperature before freezing. After 3 months of storage, it starts to get freezer burn. So consume it within 2-3 months.
