🧾 Ingredient Notes

Mangoes:

Fresh: I highly recommend using fresh and perfectly ripe, sweet mangoes for making a mango shake. Slightly unripe or slightly sour mango and milk don’t pair well. So make sure to use ripe mangoes.  In India, Alphonso mango (hapus keri) is the best choice. Since it is a little expensive fruit, the next best choice is Kesar. You can mix both as well. Here in the USA, Ataulpho mango (a Mexican fruit) is a good variety to make milkshake. Frozen: You can use a frozen pack of mango chunks. Or you can freeze your ripe, chopped mangoes for later use.  Canned pulp: Yeah, you can use canned mango pulp if that’s what you have on hand. I would choose this as the last option.

Milk:

Dairy: Full-fat whole milk is recommended for a creamy texture as this is made without ice cream. However, you can use low-fat or fat-free milk.  Non-dairy: To make this milkshake vegan, you can use non-dairy milk such as almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, or soya milk.

Sugar: A little amount of sugar is required even though your mangoes are super sweet.

👩‍🍳 How To Make Mango Milkshake Recipe?

💭 Expert Tips

Chill the fruit before making a milkshake to get a chilled milkshake. I would recommend keeping whole mango in the refrigerator and peel, chop right before making shake otherwise chopped mango will start to oxidize (just like apples) and start to discolor.  Adjust the amount of sugar depending on the sweetness of your fruit. With Ice cream: Add a scoop of ice cream for 1 serving and reduce the sugar a little bit.

🥣 Can I Store Mango Milkshake?

Always consume mango milkshake fresh, right away after making it. I do not recommend storing it in the fridge as it starts to change its color and fresh flavor is also compromised. However, you can keep it in the fridge for 1-2 hours only but not more than that.

📖 Combining Milk And Mangoes As Per Ayurveda

As per Ayurveda, one should never combine milk and fruits. So at home, we follow this rule and eat fruit-milk combinations (like fruit-based ice creams, shakes, fruit custard, etc) on special occasions only.  But Ayurveda mentions that the combination of milk and mango (ripe, sweet ones only) is beneficial to your body.  Mango is the exception (plus a few others such as avocado, and dry fruits like figs, dates, and raisins) that can be combined with milk.  Benefits of combining milk and ripe mangoes – increases calcium, iron, and weight. So this mango shake is perfect for growing kids.
