❤️ You’ll Love This Samosa Chaat Recipe
Samosa chaat is a popular North Indian street food that can be enjoyed as a snack or as a shared appetizer in restaurants. Texture: In every bite of this chaat, you’ll get crunchy, crispy and soft textures altogether.
It’s medium spicy (but customizable, if you prefer mild or spicy). It has the perfect combination of flavors (salty, spicy, sour, tangy, slightly sweet).
Two Types Of Samosa Chaat Recipe
🧾 Ingredient Notes
Here you’ll need 6 main elements, plus toppings. 6 Main Elements:
Samosa: The main element of this chaat. You can make samosa at home. Or use the store-bought one like me. I have used haldiram frozen Punjabi samosa and air fried them until crisp. The shortcut of using store-bought samosa is perfect for parties or get-to-gathers. Chana masala: I have this Instant pot chana masala here. You can use your favorite chole or chana masala recipe. Green chutney: It is made from cilantro (sometimes mint is also added), green chilies, lemon juice, etc. It adds a refreshing flavor with a spicy taste. I always prefer to make green chutney at home as store-bought ones don’t taste fresh and sometimes it has green food color in them. Tamarind date chutney: This sweet and sour chutney is also called meethi chutney. If you have time make it at home otherwise use store bought one. Sev: Nylon sev is used here and I prefer the Surti brand of sev. Yogurt: Plain yogurt is used here. A pinch of salt is added and whisked until smooth.
Toppings:
Onion: It adds a fresh element with a crunchy texture. Chaat masala & red chili powder: Both add a nice flavor and some spice. Please do not skip it. Cilantro: It adds a fresh, herby element. A must ingredient here. Optional: If you like you can add chopped tomatoes and some pomegranate arils.
Prep / Make Ahead:
Some of the main elements can be bought from the store ahead of time (e.g. tamarind date chutney, frozen samosa, yogurt, sev). A couple of main elements can be made at home freshly or ahead of time (e.g. you can make chana masala and green chutney a day or two before and store them in the refrigerator).
👩🍳 How To Make Samosa Chaat? (Pics)
- Take a deep plate for individual serving. Make a bed of chana masala. You’ll need ⅓ – ½ cup of it for 1 large size samosa.
- Break & mash the samosa into 2-3 pieces and place it in the center.
- Drizzle around 2 tablespoons of green chutney.
- Drizzle around 2-3 tablespoons of tamarind date chutney.
- Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of whisked salted yogurt.
- Sprinkle a generous pinch of chaat masala, followed by a tiny pinch of red chili powder.
- Sprinkle around 2 tablespoons of chopped onion. Then sprinkle some chopped cilantro.
- Followed by around 2-3 tablespoons of sev. Serve it right away before samosa and sev gets soggy. NOTE: For photography purposes & to make every topping visible, I have topped my samosa chaat with less amount of topping vs the amount mentioned here. I topped with more when I served this plate to myself.
🎉 How To Serve Samosa Chaat At Party?
This makes a perfect snack or appetizer for a Diwali party or any other party. Keep all the elements (shown in the ingredients pic) in individual bowls and plates. Keep the samosa and chana masala warm. So reheat them right before serving. Let the guests make their plates as per their liking.
🍽 Serving Notes:
Once the plate is assembled, it should be served/eaten right away to enjoy the best texture. Otherwise, samosa and sev get soft and soggy. A plate made with one samosa is enough portion for 1 person as a snack. If it’s an appetizer then a plate made with 1 large samosa is enough for 2 people. I would suggest making or buying medium to small size samosas if serving as an appetizer or starter. In that case, you can count 1 samosa per person.
